We chose the Bouza site in Melilla, and got there a bit before noon.</p><p>There was a nice collection of old cars, mostly Fords, very well kept. This was in the waiting area, while the rest of the scheduled group arrived. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202214007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="799" height="640" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202214007.jpg" width="639" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>There was a small patch of grapes, still very small and green this time of the year.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202214008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="728" data-original-width="800" height="582" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202214008.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>The grapes are kept quite thinned to make sure that they get enough sun. This winery goes for relatively small volumes of high quality product. </p><p>We got a thorough presentation of wine making. For me, the visually interesting feature was the large store of oak barrels where wine waits for the right moment.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202214011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="718" data-original-width="800" height="574" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202214011.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202214010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="798" data-original-width="800" height="638" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202214010.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>I took my trusty Super-Isolette to the winery, loaded with HP5+. When Covid-19 struck, back in March 2020, some bright mind in our Harbor Administration (or maybe it was in some Ministry) decided to close access to the public, even though it is as open a place as they come, with more than enough wind to clear away any virus aerosol in milliseconds, and many people went there for a walk or to fish with a reel. Or to shoot pictures, with all kind of cameras and smartphones.</p><p> I kept checking the place almost every week and getting more frustrated each time.</p><p>Last Sunday, under gray skies, I checked once again and was thrilled to see that common people were allowed into the wharf, as before. Immediately I got inside and started shooting, trying to recover two years of lost subject.</p><p>The old boats were still around. The water was dirty, maybe because of those recent floods.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220305.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="537" height="800" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220305.jpg" width="537" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220306.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="536" data-original-width="800" height="429" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220306.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220305.jpg"></a></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220307.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="561" data-original-width="800" height="449" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220307.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p><p>The pilot launch was busy, coming and going, and the ADES rescue boat came from an exercise while I was shooting.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220318.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="515" data-original-width="800" height="412" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220318.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220314.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="614" data-original-width="800" height="491" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/20220314.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>There were some interesting currents and waves in the oily, dirty water close to the stairs. As the city extended, the old mill became a park. It is located in the Malvin rambla, next to Alejandro Gallinal street. I posted on this mill a couple of years ago; it is a good place to exercise old film cameras. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202107014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="508" data-original-width="750" height="508" src="https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/a11/julio1fer/202107014.jpg" width="750" /></a></div><p></p><p>The interior of the mill was once converted into a museum, and there were some cultural activities from time to time. The harbor is a mandatory stop, especially the fishing boats areas,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Autocord/201913012_zpsnppbqq9e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="751" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Autocord/201913012_zpsnppbqq9e.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Fishing goes on all the year round, if weather allows. Some boats look sad, as if they have been put to float while their owners decide what to do with them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Autocord/201913106_zpsh67kjols.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="621" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Autocord/201913106_zpsh67kjols.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />A couple of old girls were chatting and enjoying the view.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Autocord/201913111_zpskqm9phgq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Autocord/201913111_zpskqm9phgq.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The seagulls are always ready to pick up the discards from fish cleaning. They have learned to keep their position in order,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Autocord/201913010_zpsq4eh6v6t.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="751" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Autocord/201913010_zpsq4eh6v6t.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
When the food comes out, it is a riot!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Exakta%20VX%20IIb/201911009_zpsih8rogxm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="471" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Exakta%20VX%20IIb/201911009_zpsih8rogxm.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The men were busy mooring, unloading their catch and getting the boats ready. A storm was forecasted for next morning.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Exakta%20VX%20IIb/201911001_zpsmisbcrkt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="475" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Exakta%20VX%20IIb/201911001_zpsmisbcrkt.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
Many boats had brought fish.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
These men are some of the last artisans left in their trade. I hope that the large fleets that get in the River Plate leave enough fish for them.<br />

<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16205187.post-40527635432823857182019-08-10T19:45:00.000-03:002019-08-10T19:45:34.118-03:00The castle is restoredWork is finished, now we have a castle in the midst of the city again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909032_zpsmobvhjuf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="473" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909032_zpsmobvhjuf.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The old wooden door has been replaced with a metal one. Easier to clean out graffiti. And best of all, the door is open now!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909033_zpswi5fa9wn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="469" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909033_zpswi5fa9wn.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Inside, there is a nice little library for children. Grandparents inside may look to the castle tower, in a rare sunny day of our gray and damp winter.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909034_zps7gy63ojq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="531" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909034_zps7gy63ojq.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
There is even a bathroom for visitors, new and clean - I do hope all this lasts. We should have elections more often. <br />
<br />
Not only the castle got a face lift. The old gazebo was cleaned and restored, It has images of Wagner, Bach, Beethoven and Mozart - but only old Richard was lit up when I visited.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909029_zpszaaenfeo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="478" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909029_zpszaaenfeo.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Elsewhere in the park there was music. A guy was playing saxo quite well; he was also waiting for some contribution from visitors, I believe. Got him from far away with my normal lens, so this processed blurry image will have to do. Get a Gerry Mulligan track for background.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Saxo%20player_zpso3yizlos.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="370" data-original-width="318" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Saxo%20player_zpso3yizlos.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Close by, someone was playing his guitar, maybe following the saxo, but mostly enjoying the sun. The park is shaping up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909131_zpsuotrmaet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="502" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201909131_zpsuotrmaet.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16205187.post-54096918625291009982019-03-30T20:08:00.002-03:002019-03-30T20:08:36.947-03:00Restoring the castleThe mini-castle in Rodo Park is being restored.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201905021_zpsp6kb2tsu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="473" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201905021_zpsp6kb2tsu.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Heck, we should have close elections more often. Look at the castle front now! It is clean! It also has a new door!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201905024_zpsnftpwrrv.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="486" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201905024_zpsnftpwrrv.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This was the old door - look at the writing above the entrance, it is a famous Artigas quote.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Rolleicord%20V/201711005_zpsyzoiw6p8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="748" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Rolleicord%20V/201711005_zpsyzoiw6p8.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Somehow I feel that the older design had more class. The new one feels like Soviet Ministry of Works art, and the Artigas quote is gone. Maybe they will paint it later on, work is not finished yet.<br />
<br />
The tower was also worked out, but the interior of the castle is not finished yet. I sneaked into the construction area, which was empty in a Sunday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201905018_zpswhtjclxu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="472" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201905018_zpswhtjclxu.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Some graffiti are still visible inside the pond,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201905020_zpsqnikd5gi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="475" data-original-width="750" src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/201905020_zpsqnikd5gi.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The restoration was completed in the lake, and the little boats are back. You can rent one and pedal around the central isle for exercise..<br />

It sits in a small park, next to a creek that is now almost dry because of drainage elsewhere and city sprawling. Some time ago, the mill area became a favorite venue for meetings supporting marijuana legalization, which did not help real estate values. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd9n1o65i_W8w0JGVQ3-IGqjEBvo2OPWnZW_-ymlszYM5S-INBXWVlbcYu1AE4enLPAg14N4elAKhs9uoK8iADOayOeRQSP8JFoUYRuTtY0WwShFhUyqPCMqZLPlGWNMpmzMvK/s1600/201902013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd9n1o65i_W8w0JGVQ3-IGqjEBvo2OPWnZW_-ymlszYM5S-INBXWVlbcYu1AE4enLPAg14N4elAKhs9uoK8iADOayOeRQSP8JFoUYRuTtY0WwShFhUyqPCMqZLPlGWNMpmzMvK/s1600/201902013.jpg" /></a></div>

There are cyclical attempts to restore the building. Some work is done, but shortly afterwards maintenance and vigilance fall out, and the mill stubbornly goes back to a cozy neglect. Currently, the face of the building looking to the Rambla is clean enough. Unfortunately, every other wall shows the outcome of passionate, unsubtle graffiti competitions. Even the old wooden windows got it. I liked this one ("Love is not a signature").<br />

There are several tales of lookouts seeing a hill and shouting in very awkward Portuguese "Monte vide eu". I do not believe this B.S.. My favorite explanation is old maps showing topographical accidents with a Roman numeral: "Monte VI de O", i.e. hill number 6 from the West. In any case, the hill at the western end of the bay is a most characteristic feature. Here is a view from Capurro area. (Those railroad tracks are in use, believe it or not). <br />

On top of the hill there is a fortress, last iteration 1809 right after the British invasions. There is a lighthouse over the fortress, which must make for an interesting Army-Navy joint operation.<br />

For a modest fee you can visit the military museum inside the fortress. It is a cool place in the summer. The Army keeps it in good shape. There is a time capsule stored in 2011 (two hundred years anniversary of the Army), to be opened in 2111, probably around May 18. I am not planning to attend.<br />

Maritime traffic was tremendous (there was no Panama Canal at the time). The breakwater is essential for the harbor. It is also a nice walk if you like waterscapes. Tourism is not flocking there yet. <br />
<br />
In the weekend that I visited, a veteran fisherman was preparing his home-made line in the sun and wind. These are the guys that know the fish, the wind and the best bait.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4450/26238923259_51d37beeb0_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="737" data-original-width="700" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4450/26238923259_51d37beeb0_o.jpg" /></a><br />
I did not see any catch in a few throws.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4481/37961715446_caceec8149_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="495" data-original-width="750" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4481/37961715446_caceec8149_o.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Farther down the jetty there was activity with more typical hardware. The large rocks are good standing points for throwing, but you have to be careful. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4492/38014817401_00d19f6b87_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="359" data-original-width="750" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4492/38014817401_00d19f6b87_o.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The entrance to the jetty was remodeled some time ago. Then a few storms came in, and did some damage to the easy-access section with its nice rounded shape.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4471/26238923879_276f67f2ae_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="478" data-original-width="750" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4471/26238923879_276f67f2ae_o.jpg" /></a></div>

The lake is an artificial one, turn of the century, back when things could still be done in my little country. A short walk around the lake to record progress was in order.<br />
<br />
It looks like a rain forest with palms! Yet, no pedal boats have returned.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWUAexBpmjYIhPs2XHMhJTacutepqy4u75J5E2KSbaPOjmj_yw1xSdD-PPnSAYNq6wLfTWA1KR22kvTaNmpxCET4ftMQMozc1EXxkY42yZnItufoKvUkHePZCMZzoe82k_Hhuf/s1600/201710002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="lake with palms and reflections" border="0" data-original-height="696" data-original-width="700" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWUAexBpmjYIhPs2XHMhJTacutepqy4u75J5E2KSbaPOjmj_yw1xSdD-PPnSAYNq6wLfTWA1KR22kvTaNmpxCET4ftMQMozc1EXxkY42yZnItufoKvUkHePZCMZzoe82k_Hhuf/s1600/201710002.jpg" title="Lake in Rodó park" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I hope this is just the start of a thorough clean-up. The old gazebo has been fenced. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSEKrnDnm0toyikyux4XRwXAQuHAArACDjo0vRGBitiXSAAj1CQLr8DoFgzuoEYuUDNMtdMT0IwkFFQm-Ex7C34VeDH2X5uAyNSh5PwYQXRmYXq5-OVavM9j0IKQ7MqGme15Rx/s1600/201710003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="700" data-original-width="698" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSEKrnDnm0toyikyux4XRwXAQuHAArACDjo0vRGBitiXSAAj1CQLr8DoFgzuoEYuUDNMtdMT0IwkFFQm-Ex7C34VeDH2X5uAyNSh5PwYQXRmYXq5-OVavM9j0IKQ7MqGme15Rx/s1600/201710003.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Walking around the lake, you get to the miniature castle. The Defensor Footbal Club fans ("Tuertos") have decorated it with a few graffiti. Yet, with a little care and modernization, this could shine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_gMZZ-KlY-sQKXUMSUYIFytG6n-yXkBXjsbFcJN2ksawZRe9Tcd2dJUBsWeh_wsYWQ8HNvhfaZPvTJdJkuwJjQAsKODmtUD6hFngfXW9bA0fIecp9KBWWDzgN5PdcmiVVydra/s1600/201710006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="700" data-original-width="693" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_gMZZ-KlY-sQKXUMSUYIFytG6n-yXkBXjsbFcJN2ksawZRe9Tcd2dJUBsWeh_wsYWQ8HNvhfaZPvTJdJkuwJjQAsKODmtUD6hFngfXW9bA0fIecp9KBWWDzgN5PdcmiVVydra/s1600/201710006.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The castle main gate is heavily decorated, although probably not as intended originally.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDlsGYSUW73ptfTe1BrjkIOKsCN9TIpNI_JrGV-wRh1ehqxswKrvyd3U3DjoRHuLwVjwPkX_FE5tm9UXNByhj5U3MK3GIcnk-KWwkj8LzT-BLOyYsiFdAtjODYU28zfUm0jO3I/s1600/201710007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="700" data-original-width="700" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDlsGYSUW73ptfTe1BrjkIOKsCN9TIpNI_JrGV-wRh1ehqxswKrvyd3U3DjoRHuLwVjwPkX_FE5tm9UXNByhj5U3MK3GIcnk-KWwkj8LzT-BLOyYsiFdAtjODYU28zfUm0jO3I/s1600/201710007.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A good chain and lock in this gate are testimony to a need.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9mObfgEolm3jd6m1skHD1tHQTsUaAMfIsm2z-jE66Ctz8qG0_dEhv_r-xaFbUG6LlVnlw5p-gtDDgIripVllwa5Zcu4x4C1k9BZAIneiy80POIjqRwH8DEx0DtJnGjTZr5yrp/s1600/201710109.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="671" data-original-width="700" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9mObfgEolm3jd6m1skHD1tHQTsUaAMfIsm2z-jE66Ctz8qG0_dEhv_r-xaFbUG6LlVnlw5p-gtDDgIripVllwa5Zcu4x4C1k9BZAIneiy80POIjqRwH8DEx0DtJnGjTZr5yrp/s1600/201710109.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Close to the gate there is a beautiful old water dispenser. I swear that I saw a similar one in Rome, but that one was working and it had the outlet valve - its very clean and cold water was welcome in a hot day. Our local version has lost the bronze end, probably decades ago. Montevideo dwellers are avid bronze collectors. At least the paint is the original one.<br />

A local technician cleaned and adjusted both. Here are some frames of that test roll. <br><br>

The craze has already started down here. In cities in the First World, one often sees preachers telling us that the End is Near. In earthy but chilly and windy Montevideo, this guy dressed like the King of Cups of the Spanish playing cards, only using our national light blue hue, and went through 18 de Julio avenue telling everybody the good news. The Cup is near! <br><br>
<img src="https://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/reydecopas_zpsitwwuxh1.jpg" border="0" alt="King of Cups photo reydecopas_zpsitwwuxh1.jpg">
<br><br>
The legend in the back refers to the record 15 America Cups conquered by the Celeste, our national soccer team. Whatever it may mean after the humilliation suffered in Chile in the last edition - amply avenged (3-0) in the Qualifying match with Chile some months ago. <br><br>
Let us hope for the best. The C group is a hard nut to crack, what with Mexico (an excellent team and almost local in the U.S.), Jamaica (big and fast players) and Venezuela (always dangerous to us). And two trips coast-to-coast just to play three games - they must really need the mileage in their frequent flyer programs.<br><br>
I'll keep you all posted in case our city acts out during the Cup.<br><br>
Cell phone picture, the best camera is the one you have in your hand.

I post all the time about the Western one, because it hosts all those fishing boats that are such good subjects. <br><br>
<img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Exakta%20VX%20IIb/201408016_zps86f0841d.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 201408016_zps86f0841d.jpg"/>
<br><br>
The other jetty, on the East side, is a lot more exposed to the wind. Nobody would want to moor a yacht there willingly, although I saw a yacht sitting right over the jetty after the August 2005 typhon. No matter the weather, there are always some <i>pecheurs-a-la-ligne</i> up there at the very end.
<br><br>
<img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/Exakta%20VX%20IIb/201605029_zpse9fy0va2.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 201605029_zpse9fy0va2.jpg"/>
<br><br>
The Eastern jetty is a favorite with family walkers in good weather.

<br><br>
On the rough concrete floor of the Eastern jetty, there is a memorial to someone obviously loved and missed, who probably liked to look at the horizon from that place. A short life indeed.

All places to run were filled quickly. The race went through the usual Rambla and back. In some sections there were people running in both directions, with each stream of runners just a few meters apart from the other one. No accidents and I did not see anyone taking a shortcut.

<img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/julio1fer/corremvd00_zpsskziqpca.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo corremvd00_zpsskziqpca.jpg"/>
<br><br>
The effort starts to show in the faces by mid-race.

<br><br>
I was not the only photographer around. This one had the idea of following the race in a bicycle, probably shooting video.

<br><br>
Sometimes results are unexpected. This runner looks like our President. Mr. Vazquez. The guy about to pass him in a wheelchair looks like one of the opposition leaders, Mr. Novick. No political conclusions should be extracted.
