Boats and bows

I've been walking again along the marinas of the Yacht Club, this time with a 50 mm lens and nothing else in the Pentax ME. There was a tremendously low tide on Saturday and a lot of boats were touching the mud bottom.

  1. I get a sense of your winter from those two shots. As I recall it from BA, the seasonal changes were rather like those of San Francisco - mostly pleasant, but sometimes a few too many gray days in succession.
Still, the lower contrast presents some nice opportunities for both color and b&w. I particularly like the gradation in grays along the left of that first shot, leading down to the gritty corner.

  2. Thanks, Mike. Indeed, winter here is similar to BA but with more wind and stronger storms. It is a good season for B&W!

  3. I made a new Flickr contact today who is doing some nice b&w with a VUWS, including a super shot of boats on Lake Union in Seattle. His profile page also had a link to The Center for Wooden Boats there; looks like a place you'll need to put on your travel agenda.
