The other jetty

In Buceo harbor there are two main jetties. I post all the time about the Western one, because it hosts all those fishing boats that are such good subjects.

The other jetty, on the East side, is a lot more exposed to the wind. Nobody would want to moor a yacht there willingly, although I saw a yacht sitting right over the jetty after the August 2005 typhon. No matter the weather, there are always some pecheurs-a-la-ligne up there at the very end.

The Eastern jetty is a favorite with family walkers in good weather.

On the rough concrete floor of the Eastern jetty, there is a memorial to someone obviously loved and missed, who probably liked to look at the horizon from that place. A short life indeed.

Run, city, run!

The city half-marathon was called "Run, Montevideo". All places to run were filled quickly. The race went through the usual Rambla and back. In some sections there were people running in both directions, with each stream of runners just a few meters apart from the other one. No accidents and I did not see anyone taking a shortcut.

The effort starts to show in the faces by mid-race.

I was not the only photographer around. This one had the idea of following the race in a bicycle, probably shooting video.

Sometimes results are unexpected. This runner looks like our President. Mr. Vazquez. The guy about to pass him in a wheelchair looks like one of the opposition leaders, Mr. Novick. No political conclusions should be extracted.

The new harbor in Piriapolis

The Piriapolis harbor has sprung three new yacht piers. I do not own a yacht, but at least the fishing boats are back where I can take pictures of them.

This large boat has been on repairs for a very long time.

Shadows and reflections are the best part of the view, if you look at them.

Homage to the founder of Piriapolis.

I can think of no better way to start the new year than taking a few pictures of boats in a cloudy day.
